MR. WILLIAM TAPP.
The funeral of Mr William Tapp of St Marys took place at St Marys on Wednesday and was largely attended Mr Tapp was born at Evandale In 1868
He was a noted athlete and contested many foot racing events especially over
hurdles against many of the best runners in Tasmania with success. He was also a prominent footballer and was one of l8 selected by the Southern Association against North. He worked on the construction of the Fingal line as a platelayer and for 38 years worked at different periods for the Cornwall Coal Co for 30 years he was a member of the different bands at St Marys as a side drummer He was a presiding officer at both Federal and State elections.
At the Methodist Church the service was conducted by the Rev C Rule and Captain Cake of the Salvation Army.
The pallbearers were Messrs G. Haas, A. Miller, A. Rees, and I. Targett members of the St Marys Band. Among those present were Mr J. H. Gard manager Jubilee colliery and Mr W. J. Cook under manager Cornwall colliery.
The floral tributes were numerous the deceased leaves a wife and family of eight sons and three daughters. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs Finney and Finney of Launceston.
