George received is Masters Certificate on 6 October 1916, his No. was 14
He also received an Engineers Certificate.
Boats owned by George included the, 'Mary', the 'Frolic', and the 'Janet'.
George was also a competent bread maker and had his own shop at Lepreena.
George was in charge of many craft which plied between Hobart,SouthPort, Dover, and Port Arthur, transporting mainly firewood and building materials to the city. He Also skippered the vessels 'CATHKIT' and 'VICTORIA' which transported limestone from the Lune River.
He left school at about 12 years of age. He worked at burning forest wood in 1942 to produce charcoal which was used to produce hydrogen gas to be used in vehicle engines; because petrol was in very short supply during the war years. The factory was in Settlement Road. In April 1943 George was very Badley injured when a saw mill roof fel lon him crushing his leg.
His son Bert, (25) strapped his leg, put him in the back of a ute and took him to the Royal Hobart Hospital
