William Fisher was the Captain of a Whaler and owned the whaling brig "Calypso".
In 1855 he was in trouble with the Customs Dept. when after the "Calypso's" departure, the Custom Officer learned she had 150 gallons of spirits and 900 pound of tobacco on board, which they seized, along with the ship's papers until a satisfactory explanation was given.
The "Calypso" finally sailed for the whaling grounds.
William Fisher went to the gold diggings in the early 1850s for a short period.

He owned property in Hobart but lived at Recherche Bay in the far south of Tasmania in his later years, where he died in 1893, aged 80 years.
