LAND DEALS WITH REBECCA JARVIS:
On the 25th April 1831, William applied for and was granted, land in Veteran Row, (Now Harrington Street) Hobart. William was to build a brick house within two years, we do not know if he kept that agreement. William did lease a brick house and outbuilding in Veteran Row from Charles Rowe from Charles Probin, on the 25th of June 1833. William at that time was a Baker.

The following statements appear in copies of land deals:
“ Lease 21.9.1836 128
Memorial of an Indenture of Lease pursuant to an Act in Council insuchcase made and provided. Twenty first day of September one thousand eight hundred and thirty six. To Demise (convey) the property there indescribed to the said William Benbow. For the term of fourteen years from the date thereof Thos Pierce Clerk to Ed Messiter Dyne. Solicitor. Witness.
All that piece tract or parcel of land or ground containing by estimate Fifteen acres being part and parcel of a Location of Thirty Acres in Possession of said James Ashe and bounded on the front by the Snug Riverlet on the West by the other fifteen acres of land in the possession of the said James Ashe- The fifteen now demised are the nearest to the shore of NW Bay .
The sum of seventeen pounds in hand paid by the said William Benbow to the r\said James Ashe as appears by the receipt endorsed on the now Memorialized Indenture and also the yearly rent of a peppercorn.
William signed with his mark. Thomas Pierce was the witness.
295 MEMORIAL of an indenture if assignment to be registered pursuant to the Act of Council made and provided Indenture. This seventh day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand and thirty seven. Nature and object thereof. Absolute sale of the premises the rein and herein after described.
Names and additions of the parties… John Waugh of Hobart Town formerly a Private in New South Wales Veteran Battalion of the first part, James Ashe of North West Bay, Yeoman of the second part William Benbow of Hobart Town General Dealer of the third part and Rebecca Jarvis of the same place of the fourth part.

Description of these Premises. All those thirty acres of land situate and being in the Parish of Kingsborough in the County of Buckingham,Van Diemen's Land. Bounded as described in a certain Letter of Location in the Indenture mentioned Situate on the North Bank of Snug Riverlet fronting thereon about two miles up the same being nearly opposite the grant to Robert Household on the N.W. angle of the same and bounded on the East and North sides by Crown Land. Consideration to whom and how paid
The sum of thirty pounds herefore paid by the said James Ashe to the said John Waugh and the sum of twenty pounds paid by the said Rebecca Jarvis to the said James Ashe on the execution of the now Memorializing Indenture as also appears by receipt endorsed thereon.
