Joseph’s offences had been reported twice on the same date and a trial followed at the Old Bailey Criminal court in London on the 18th of Oct. ( Stealing of a loaf of bread was also recorded on his convict record.)
JOSEPH HOSKINS was indicted for stealing, on the 9th of October,13 forks, value 7s.,and 12 knives, value 7s., the goods of John Abrahams ; and JAMES LOCK was indicted for feloniously receiving the same, well knowing them to have been stolen .
JOSEPH HOSKINS was again indicted for stealing on the 9th of October, 1 watch, value 2/-; 1 watchguard, value 10s; 1 pair of shoes, value 10s; and 6 handkerchiefs, value 6s; the goods of EMANUEL MOSES, his master; and JOHN SMITH, alias BAKER, was indicted for feloniously receiving the same, well knowing them to have been stolen.
Joseph was sentenced for 14 years transportation for Larceny at the age of 19 following transfer to the local Middlesex Gaol Delivery. His Hulk report from the Ganymede moored at Woolwich on the River Thames stated that he was orderly and quiet. He left Downs on the ship ‘Jupiter’ and arrived in Hobart Town on
the 28th May, 1833.
