It can be seen that Catherine left items to members of all her siblings’ families, save for her youngest brother Anthony’s.This seems strange as he was the youngest in the family, aged only 11 when his mother died, and might therefore have been expected to have been most in receipt of motherly affection from Catherine. Perhaps the distance from Tasmania discouraged her from naming him or his family in her will; possibly she was unhappy about him emigrating, or the birth of his first child less than three months after his marriage; she may even have held strong views about Anthony’s marriage to the daughter of a convict.
