At some point, presumably in the mid-1820’s as suggested by the baptism dates of Henry and Jane, John and Lucy moved from London to Cheltenham; John was a clock- and watchmaker (like his eldest brother, Edward), noted in Pigot’s directory in 1830 as based at 112 High Street, Cheltenham. They later moved to Croydon, presumably to be nearer to their daughter Lucy; John’s wife Lucy died in Croydon in Q11851, and John moved to live with his daughter, and died there in 1862, aged about 73, being buried there on 15 February 1862. aged 72, living with his son William and daughter Lucy (and a Sarah Steadman, 58, described as “a fund holder”, and Elizabeth Patterson, 33, a general servant).
