Susan FEATHERSTONE, the daughter of William and Mary Featherstone was Christened at the Brook Street Independent Church at Tavistock Devon England on 13 Oct 1821.
Susan was tried at the Exeter Quarter Sessions for stealing a shawl on 3 Jan 1837 and sentenced to 7 years transportation to the Colonies.
She had been in prison once before for Vagrancy.
She was found guilty and transported to Van Dieman's Land for seven years.

The following information was obtained from Susan's Convict Record held at State Archives, Hobart, Tasmania.
Susan was a tiny woman, only 4 foot 6 inches tall
Susan had several other convictions in Australia & her prison record shows her term was twice extended for misconduct.
Once for a further six months for selling rum at Browns River in 1843 when she was already married to George Jones - the total extension being for 24 months.
30 August 1838: Absent without leave having refused to remain in her Service - 14 days, the first six on B & W (Bread & water).

6 July 1843:Jones / Misconduct in selling Rum at Brown's River 6 months hard labour."
When she married George Jones in 1841 well before her sentence expired, neither could write & both made their marks.
George & Susan had 13 children, the first born 3 months prior to the wedding.
Presumably the first 5 children died young, as although the couple had thirteen children, when Susan applied for a compassionate allowance in 1869, about two years before the death of an ailing George, she only listed the names of eight in the Kingston Police Letter book.
They were James 1850, Emma 1852, Georgina 1854, Susan Priscilla 1856, Elizabeth Ann 1857, Matilda Alice 1859, George John 1861 and William Robert 1861.
Susan married Thomas John VISTRIN on the 16th of February 1874 in Hobart, Tasmania.
Susan & Thomas John VISTRIN were married for nearly 20 years.
Thomas was a Cabman when Susan (Featherstone) Jones / Vistirine died in Gordon 23 Sept 1893.
Her grandson Thomas TURNBULL of Middleton being the informant of her death.
