The Hobart Mercury reports that a shocking affair occurred at Greenhills, Forcett, Tasmania, by which Bartholomew Reardon, an old resident of the district was burned to death. On the day in question he proceeded along with one of his brothers and a young lad who was in his employment, to fire the
bush near his residence in order to clear a piece of land. While they were actively engaged in forwarding the progress of the flames, Mr. Reardon left his brother and the lad at their occupation, and they were under the impression that he had gone home, but when they finished their task, much to their
astonishment, Mr. Reardon was missing. A search was instituted, and bis remains were found near a heap of rubbish which had been burning fiercely. It is supposed that the old man had taken a fit, or had been overcome with the heat, and falling into the burning stuff he was converted into an almost unrecoguisable mass of cinders.
