Johann Roderick Holstein was born on 6 March 1786 at Fischbach, Germany.1 He married Anna Maria Damm, daughter of Johann Damm and Barbara Martin, on 18 February 1819 at Neudorf, Hanover, Germany; They were married not far from the Rhine River in the Duchy of Nassau.
