     James Best was born on 6 March 1788 at Beeding, Sussex, England. He was baptized on 20 March 1789 at Beeding, Sussex, England. He was Shepherd circa 1800 at Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England. He lived in 1807 at Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He lived in 1808 at Orkney and Shetland Islands, Scotland. He served in The Battle of Waterloo, France, in 1815 James was press ganged into the Navy and served on HMS Bellerophon at the battle of Trafalgar. It also appears that he spent seven years as a prisoner of the French at Arras. He married Ann Goacher on 27 March 1815 at Brighton, Sussex, England. James Best immigrated on 8 May 1829 to Victoria, Australia on the ship 'City of Sydney'. He immigrated after 8 May 1829 to on the ship 'Orelia'; from Victoria to Van Diemen's Land. He Fell from his horse at the rookery in May 1853. He died on 4 September 1869 at 'Shepherds Folly', Branxholme, Victoria, Australia, at age 81 died from cancer of eye. He was buried on 8 September 1869 at Branxholme, Victoria, Australia.
