Evan Gilbert Barsby Jones was born on 14 June 1906 at Portland Lighthouse, Victoria, Australia, History
The Whalers Bluff Lighthouse was originally erected with keeper'squarters on Battery Point in 1859 and was know as the Portland BayLighthouse.
It was first lit in that year.
The lantern is catadioptric made in England.
The lighthouse relocated, stone by stone, to it's current position onNorth Bluff (now Whaler's Bluff) in 1889 to make way for gunemplacements on Battery Point.
Another reason given for the relocation was that it was lessvulnerable to attack on Whaler's Bluff.
Dacre Smith in his book notes an interesting written direction at thetime of the relocation:
'Lighthouse keepers are not, without authority, to permit views ofdefence works to be taken from the lighthouse towers or premises byphotographers or others, and no information shall be suppliedrespecting such defence works'. He died on 14 March 1924 at Victoria, Australia, at age 17.1

William Victor Tunnell- Jones was born on 26 May 1908 at Split Point Lighthouse, Aireys Inlet, Victoria, Australia, Originally called Eagles Nest Point, the lighthouse was originallybuilt in 1891. It was converted to automatic operation in 1919.
The original British-made first order Fresnel lens is still in use.[1]However, the factory in Birmingham, where the lens was built, wasbombed during war-time and the essential formulae for making theunique lens crystal were lost, should a replacement ever be needed.
A Japanese firm, consulted by the Australian Maritime SafetyAuthority, estimated the cost of replacing the lens at more than A$1million.
Under standard Australian lighthouse convention, red filters wouldusually be placed to the extreme left and right of the beam(indicating 'danger zones' for a passing ship, in-line with the jaggedcoastline). For reasons unknown, the Split Point Lighthouse operatedfor many years under the opposite system; although this has now beencorrected.
He married Edna May Rough in 1934 at Victoria, Australia.1 William Victor Tunnell- Jones died on 3 May 1993 at Prahran Freemason homes for the aged, Prahran, Victoria, Australia, at age 84. He was buried circa 5 May 1993 at Victoria, Australia.
