He Fell from his horse at the rookery in May 1853. He died on 4 September 1869 at 'Shepherds Folly', Branxholme, Victoria, Australia, at age 81 died from cancer of eye. He was buried on 8 September 1869 at Branxholme, Victoria, Australia.
