Father | John Albert Stanyer b. bt 1828 - 1858, d. bt 1883 - 1942 |
Mother | Mary m Stanyer b. bt 1837 - 1860, d. bt 1883 - 1949 |
Her married name was Cartland. Beatrice Stanyer Beatrice Stanyer was born 18 July 1878, in Wappinger Falls N.Y. Later
she was baptised in Zion Church, Jan 5, 1879. Her parentsareregistered
as John Albert and Mary. Outside of this nothing is really known about
the family, although there is a souvenir booklet of Cape Town which was given to her in 1901 by her brother Charlie when he returned from the South African War.
Wappinger Falls is still a very small community beside a busy freeway
leading into New York City and nothing seems to be known today of the
early residents, the Stanyers. Following the death of Dora Adele, nee
Van Curen, William Waldby Cartland and Beatrice were married atMercer,
Penn., August 26, 1919. At this time she was an unwed mother with a
three year old son, Hubert Riseur. (Riseur may have been the maiden name of her mother Mary). W.W. Cartland adopted Hubert at this time and hisname was changed to Cartland. Shortly afterwards the Cartland family
moved to Leslieville, Alberta. With them at this time were W.W.
Cartlands three youngest children, Eleanor, Margaret, Myra and Hubert.
They lived at Leslieville for about eight years. By this time all the
girls were away from home and Waldby decided to move back to Bashaw, Alberta where he had homesteaded during the first decade of this century. Here they settled across the road from the high school and beside the Methodist (later United) church. Hubert continued his
schooling and Waldby worked as a painter and decorator. In about 1945
the two elderly Cartlands retired and moved to Forest Lawn, just East of
Calgary. There they lived until 1950 when he died at the age of 78.
Beatrice decided at this time to return to the USA and live withHubert
at Lexington Ky. He was practicing there as a chiropractor, havingtaken
the training, using his armed f orces privileges, following the war
service. Things did not seem to go all that well in Kentucky and so
about 1953 they moved to Milton, Washington. She continued to live with
her son Hubert until she died in 1967. During this time there was a
period of time when she shared the house with a divorcee, named Betty,
whom Hubert married, and her two sons. The marriage did not last too
long, but while it lasted it was not a happy situation for Beatrice. She
was a very little person, not more than five feet at the most, andvery
humped over during her latter years. Always very kind and affectionate
and a good mother to the teenage daughters who became hers at the time of
her marriage as well as to Hubert, her only child. (she was 41 years of
age when they were married). When she died there were 7 grandchildren
who had never known anyone else, and loved her as their own.
Parents names taken from baptismal record. Assumed that Chas. was her
brother because of momentos sent from South Africa and a picture
endorsed as her brother. She was born on 18 July 1878 at Wappinger Falls, New York, USA. She was the daughter of John Albert Stanyer and Mary m Stanyer. Beatrice Stanyer married William Waldby Cartland, son of Samuel Asa Cartland and Ella Louise Hannahs, on 26 August 1919 at Mercer, Pennsylvania, USA. Beatrice Stanyer died on 5 May 1967 at Puyallup, Wash, Western Australia, Australia, at age 88.
