None of them were imprisoned there, but had tickets of leave and were assigned to various property owners in different parts of the country. Over the years, the three Batts moved about independently, to places including Swansea, Little Swanport, Oatlands, Longford, Ouse, Melton Mowbray, Hamilton, Bothwell and also Hobart, where William and his wife Mary Anne had a general store next to theTheatre Royal in Campbell Street.
