JOHN BOSLEY THROT. I live in Harrison's-buildings, in the parish ofSt. Mary, Whitechapel . On the 21st of April, about five o'clock inthe afternoon, I went out, leaving my wife and daughter at home. Ireturned a little before eight - it was not then quite dark; I knockedat the door and nobody answered. Cole, the next door neighbour, cameout, and gave me my key - I unlocked the door and went in, withoutshutting it after me; my son-in-law came in, in two or three minutes -and while talking to him I heard a noise at the up-stairs window; Iimmediately ran out, and saw a person struggling with Mr. Carter, hegot from him - Carter immediately called Stop thief! and my sonstopped the man, who was the prisoner, - I never lost sight of him; wesecured him. I immediately said 'I will go up stairs to see if anybody else is there,' and at that instant a person rushed down-stairs,ran out and got away; my wife went up-stairs. I followed her, and wemissed some property.

SUSANNAH THROP . I am the prosecutor's wife. I went up-stairs to thefirst floor, after the men had escaped, and found my clothes taken outof the box - I found them down-stairs, tied up in a bundle, ready tobe taken away, the box was not locked - I had seen all the things safethat day - the bundle was brought down to the ground floor, and put onthe ironing-board; they are worth much more than 40s. at a moderateestimate; my husband had left me and my daughter at home - we bothwent out at half-past seven o'clock, locked the door, and left the keywith Mr. Cole.

GEORGE LOADER . On Saturday, the 21st of April, between a quarter andten minutes to eight o'clock, I went to the prosecutor's house - he ismy father-in-law; in a very short time he said something - I ran tothe door directly, and saw the prisoner scuffling with Carter; he gotaway, - Carter cried Stop thief! and I caught him in my arms, - ascuffle ensued; he hit me, but I detained him, and took him to thewatch-house.

ROBERT CARTER . I live next door but one to Throp. On the 21st ofApril, a little before eight o'clock in the evening, I was coming outof my own door, and saw the prisoner falling out of Throp's firstfloor window; it was light enough to see him; he fell on the ground -I attempted to collar him; he tried to trip me up, and got from me - Icalled Stop thief! and Loader stopped him, without my losing sight ofhim.(Property produced and sworn to.)

Prisoner's Defence. I was employed by a young man to help him movesome goods; some people were coming into the house, and he said 'Imust get away, or we shall both he taken.' GUILTY - DEATH . Aged 21.
Of stealing in the dwelling-house, but not of burglary . on 31 May 1827 at Whitechapel, London, England. Hewas transported on 18 March 1828 an unknown place. He married Mary Ann Allen, daughter of Joseph Allen and Mary Ann O'Brien, on 30 December 1840 at Launceston, Van Diemen's Land, Australia; There is a permission to marry application dated 12 Oct 1840 for William Taylor, ship named William Miles, to marry Mary Allen, free. Convict William Robert Taylor died on 29 March 1873 at George Town, Tasmania, Australia, at age 67 Congestion of the lungs.
