     James Taylor Catherine was the sister of Maria Riseley, who was transported to Sydney from England in 1804 and subsequently married an Edward Lord and moved to Hobart. Catherine obviously came to Australia to visit Maria in 1813 and, shortly after her arrival, married a Lt James Taylor. In 1814 they sailed from Hobart to Ceylon withJames's regiment. James died in Ceylon in . They had three children, two of whom returned eventually to Tasmania. Catherine herself also returned to Hobart in 1820 where she married Thomas Cookson Simpson.
