Her married name was Keating. Her married name was Edmonds. Convict Ann Middlebrooke was also known as Convict Ann Edmonds Middlebrooke. She was born in 1757 at England.1 She was convicted on 11 March 1801 at Stafford, Staffordshire, England, for stealing and sentenced to 7 years transportation.
Ann Middlebrooke was a convict who had been sentenced at Stafford on March 11 1801 and transported for 7 years, arriving in Sydney on March 11 1803 on the ship 'Glatton'.
Where and when she married James Keating is not recorded but they were part of the first settlement at Port Dalrymple arriving on 11th November 1804, in HMS “Buffalo”.
she gave birth immediately to a son William Dalrymple Keating on November 11, 1804 (supposedly the first white child born in Northern Tasmania).
The 1817 Victualling List for Port Dalrymple backs up the claim that he was the first European child born in Port Dalrymple, because he was rationed by the orders of Colonel Patterson simply because he was the first child born in the settlement.
Ann Keating (widow) then married Joseph Edmonds (single man) on March 10, 1811. (according to Marriage records at St. John's Church in Launceston) She died in 1841 at Longford, Van Diemen's Land
Ann's headstone in the grounds of the Christ Church, Longford in Tasmania, reads:
"Sacred to the memory of Annie Edmonds who departed this life Oct 25, 1841 aged 86 years
who was the mother of the first child of British descent born on the Northern Side Of Van Diemen's Land". She married Convict James William Keating circa 1803. Convict Ann Middlebrooke arrived 11 March 1803 on the convict transport ship 'Glatton' in Australia from England. She arrived 11 November 1804 on the ship 'HMS Buffalo' in Port Dalrymple, Van Diemen's Land from New South Wales. She died on 26 October 1841 at Longford, Van Diemen's Land, Australia.1 She was buried circa 28 October 1841 at Christ Church Cemetery, Wellington Street, Longford, Van Diemen's Land, Australia.
