William Muston Eliza Grainger, wife of William Muston, was pregnant with her fourth child when the family left Boston, Lincolnshire, for New South Wales on board the 'Beejapore'. Their youngest child, Sarah Anne, died during the voyage, aged 15 months. Just nine days after the family arrived in Sydney in February 1853, Eliza gave birth to son, christened Henry. Sadly, Eliza did not recover from the birth and died five weeks later at the Barracks in Parramatta. The baby Henry died two days later. William was now left widowed in a new land with two sons aged 6 and 4.
William Muston chose to remarry just five weeks later to a young widow, Eliza Clapp (nee Palmer), who had experienced her own loss. Eliza and her husband William had left Somerset on board the 'Trafalgar' for a new life in New South Wales. Eliza was also pregnant, and gave birth to a son, William Charles, in January 1853 during the voyage. Eliza arrived in Sydney in March 1853 with her son, but without her husband. William Clapp had died during the voyage and was buried at sea. She was completely alone in a new land with a baby just two months old.
William Muston and Eliza Clapp began their new life together in Parramatta in May 1853. But before things were to improve, Eliza lost her baby son William Charles, who died in August 1853, aged 7 months.
William and Eliza would go on to have seven children together, four ofwhom survived infancy. The extended family, including William's sonsfrom his first marriage, all prospered in Australia, contributing to the early development of Parramatta. Nevertheless, the headstone in St John's Cemetery reminds their descendants that that prosperity came at a price. He was born circa 1822 at Leverington, Cambridgeshire, England. He was christened in 1822 at Leverington, Cambridgeshire, England. He married Eliza Grainger on 26 May 1845 at Tewksbury, Gloucester, England. William Muston lived in 1851 at Boston, Lincolnshire, England. He immigrated in 1853 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, with his wife Eliza & two sons on the ship 'Beejapore'. He married Eliza Palmer on 2 May 1853 at St John's Church of England, Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia. William Muston was buried in 1904 at Field of Mars Cemetery, Ryde, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Baptist Section. He died in 1904 at Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia.
