Mary Margaret Riley Mary was working as a housemaid for a family by the name of 'Clarke' who had a farm near Maffra. She had been there about twelve months, when she drowned in the Macalister River on 12 September 1906, aged 16 years. There was an inquest, the verdict was she drowned herself. There is no evidence in the reports to uphold a family story that she was pregnant. The note she left behind would indicate she was not pregant. She was buried at Maffra, Victoria, Australia. This is where she met Frederick John Wright whom she later married on 23 May 1908. At first they lived in Apollo Bay. They eventually moved there about 1922 and had a dairy farm.They had ten children.
