Joseph Richard Thompson-Lewis was also known as Joseph Cragnell. He Joseph was not a Schrader nor yet a Lewis. However, when John married Mary he had all the children baptised in his name. Joseph called himself Joseph Thompson Lewis and at one time he called himself Joseph Cragnell, presumably meant to be Cracknell, his mother’s maidenname. The mystery still surrounds the children.
Joseph was buried in Queensborough Cemetery at 65 years of age. In the same site is his wife Sophia. Also in this site is George John Lewis.
Joseph Richard Lewis had three lots of money left to him at different times when parts of the estate were sold, as there was a fair amount of property in Liverpool St, Hobart, where His Majesty’s Picture Theatre, previously named Spencer House is and a few shops nearby and the Sir George Arthur Hotel, 2 Campbell St. All there is to show for the money is a piece of ground in the cemetery with stones around it.
