John became the licensee of the marquee of Hastings hotel, Notting Hill St West Hobart, from 1887 to his death in 1904, when his second wife, Josephine, took it over for a period of time.

Johns will can be found on microfilm AD960/2 27 6 2 -- 6326. He left his daughter and grandchildren well provided and the residue to his wife Josephine Elisabeth Norwood. He also left 100 pounds to his niece Alberta Clark which he later revoked. in 1855. He was John became the licensee of the Marquee of Hastings Hotel, Notting Hill St. West Hobart, from 1887 to his death in 1887 at Marquee of Hastings Hotel, Notting Hill Street, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.
