Nathaniel Lucas lived at 'Red House', Kingston, Van Diemen's Land, Australia; In 1808 Norfolk Islanders Thomas and Anne Lucas received a grant of 530 acres at Brown's River. The Lucas family set about building a crude timber dwelling and with the help of their four sons cleared four acres and sowed wheat and barley. Thomas Lucas died in 1816 and his four sons, Thomas, Richard, John and Nathaniel, all became substantial landholders in the district and were prominent citizens.
Nathaniel Lucas built an impressive two-storey Georgian house, known as the "Red House" which still stands and is used today by the Kingston Golf Club as their clubrooms. The original township of Kingston grew up on John Lucas' estate. He married Elizabeth Fisher. Nathaniel Lucas was born on 19 October 1799 at Norfolk Island. He was the son of Marine Corporal Thomas Lucas and Convict Ann Howard. Nathaniel Lucas was baptized on 2 August 1801 at Norfolk Island Baptised by Rev Henry Fulton. On Wednesday 7th July 1784, Nathaniel was tried before Mr. Rose at Justice hall in the Old Bailey and convicted of feloniously stealing clothing, the value of which was £ 2-0-0 ($ 4-00). This being the property of his neighbour Mary Davis, a spinster.
Sentenced to transportation for seven years, Nathaniel was to spend some time in a prison hulk anchored in the Thames. On the 13th of May 1787 he left Portsmouth aboard the "Scarborough" one of the transport ships of the First Fleet, bound for Botany Bay, New South Wales. Aboard another ship in the fleet the "Lady Penryhn" was Olivia Gascoigne, who was destined to become Nathaniel's wife. He was transported on 13 May 1787 from on the convict transport ship 'Scarborough' from Portsmouth, England to Botany Bay, New South Wales, Australia

Nathaniel Lucas advertised in the Sydney Gazette that he was leaving for Port Dalrymple on the 13th January 1816, and he also advertised his house for sale. Nathaniel was a traveler and commuted between Tasmania and Sydney frequently. on 13 January 1816. He After the death of his father in 1818, he arrived in Sydney to accompany his mother and all her younger children to Launceston, aboard the Schooner “John Palmer”.
