Catherine Riseley Catherine was the sister of Maria Riseley, who was transported to Sydney from England in 1804 and subsequently married an Edward Lord and moved to Hobart. Catherine obviously came to Australia to visit Maria in 1813 and, shortly after her arrival, married a Lt James Taylor. In 1814 they sailed from Hobart to Ceylon with James's regiment. James died in Ceylon in 1817. They had three children, two of whom returned eventually to Tasmania. Catherine herself also returned to Hobart in 1820 where she married Thomas Cookson Simpson. She was born on 9 February 1796 at Molesworth, Huntingdonshire, England. She was the daughter of Robert Riseley and (?) Mary. Catherine Riseley married James Taylor on 1 June 1813 at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
