     Joseph Richard Thompson-Lewis was also known as Joseph Cracknell.¹ Joseph Richard Thompson-Lewis was also known as Joseph Cragnell. He Joseph was not a Schrader nor yet a Lewis. However, when John married Mary he had all the children baptised in his name. Joseph called himself Joseph Thompson Lewis and at one time he called himself Joseph Cragnell, presumably meant to be Cracknell, his mother’s maidenname. The mystery still surrounds the children.

Joseph was buried in Queensborough Cemetery at 65 years of age. In the same site is his wife Sophia. Also in this site is George John Lewis.

Joseph Richard Lewis had three lots of money left to him at different times when parts of the estate were sold, as there was a fair amount of property in Liverpool St, Hobart, where His Majesty’s Picture Theatre, previously named Spencer House is and a few shops nearby and the Sir George Arthur Hotel, 2 Campbell St. All there is to show for the money is a piece of ground in the cemetery with stones around it. Most of the money was wasted. Joseph Richard Thompson-Lewis was also known as Joseph Richard Schroeder. He was born on 10 May 1836 at Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.¹ He was the son of Richard Joseph Thompson and Mary Ann Cracknell.      Ann Sarah Thompson died at Invercargill, New Zealand, Sarah lived to about 94 years old died at Invercargill. Her married name was Dawson. She married James Henry Dawson, son of William Dawson and Anne Lydia Barrett, circa 1855.

     Her married name was Williams. Annie Thompson was born in 1880. She married John Iothona Williams, son of Thomas Williams and Sarah Worland, in 1903 at Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia. Annie Thompson died on 7 May 1973 at Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia.

     Arthur Brearey Thompson was born on 4 September 1876 at Common side, Dewsbury, Yorkshire, England. He married Mary Jane Izzard Lowe, daughter of Arthur Joseph Thurman and Elizaberth Sarah Izzard, on 29 September 1897 at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Arthur Brearey Thompson died on 6 July 1950 at Stanmore, Marrickville, New South Wales, Australia, at age 73.

     C.F. Thompson was born between 1836 and 1856. He married Ellen Gertrude Cartland, daughter of Moses Austin Cartland and Mary Paige Gove, between 1867 and 1900. C.F. Thompson died between 1870 and 1942.

It could also be that Maria had a real sense of humour and did not know who the father was and that some “John Thompson” got her pregnant. He married Convict Maria Riseley, daughter of Robert Riseley and (?) Mary, circa 1804.
