     Robinson Briggs Robinson Briggs was born on 2nd January, 1829 in Hatfield, near Doncaster, the second son of Christopher and Sarah Briggs. After his fathers’ transportation when he was only three years old, Robinson was raised in the company of his grandparents. He was baptised at the Church of St Helena at Hatfield in 1834, when he was five years old. He probably only had limited education, although he did learn to read and write. By 1851 his mother Sarah remarried or was living with a John Wood at Dunscroft nearby to Hatfield, and Robinson was living with them. Sometime soon after the census of 1851 Robinson and his younger brother, William, emigrated to Van Diemen’s Land to join theirfather.No records have so far been found for their journey and it is likely that the travelled steerage (many passengers were not registered in this class of travel). Robinson was living at Hayfield near Bridgewater in early 1852 and married Rosanna Sarah Baldwin inthe house of Mrs Cox at daughter of William and Catherine (Coventry) Baldwin who had both died by the 1840’s. Mrs Mary Ann Cox (nee Martin) was Rosanna’s grandmother. William Baldwin was an ex-convict transported for highway who arrived in Hobart aboard the daughter of William Coventry, also a convict, transported from Ireland aboard ‘Hercules’,which arrived in Sydney in 1802. William Coventry eventually ended upas a prisoner at Macquarie Van Diemen's Land. In 1831 he and four other convicts escaped the law by overpowering aguard and robbing him of everything he had, including his food, and fled into bushland. With a lack of food the four escapees turned to killing each other off for food so the others could survive. William was oneof the men eaten. Between 1853 and 1872 Robinson and Rosanna had eight children. The family moved around quitea bit and the children were born in Hobart, Spring Bay, Quarry (nearOrford) and Prosser’s Plains.At some stage, duringthe mid-1850’s, was living at Circular Head where he Van Diemen’s Land (VDL) Company. Between 1864 and 1869 he was employed as a quarryman near Spring Beach and Okehampton. in 1894. In 1897 Robinson, who was also known as Robert,owned a house and (2acres) at Buckland on the east coast of Tasmania. His occupation was shown as either gardener or orchardist. Robinson Briggs was also known as Robert Briggs. He was born on 2 January 1829 at Hatfield, Doncaster, England. He was the son of Convict Christopher Briggs and Sarah Clarke. Robinson Briggs was baptized in 1834 at Church of St. Helena, Hatfield, Doncaster, England.1 He lived in 1841 at Thorne, Yorkshire, England. He lived in 1852 at 'Hayfield', Bridgewater, Van Diemen's Land, Australia. He married Rosanna Sarah Baldwin, daughter of Convict William Baldwin and Catherine Coventry, on 16 April 1852 at In the house of Mrs Cox, Bridgewater, Van Diemen's Land, Australia. Robinson Briggs died on 20 April 1909 at Buckland, Tasmania, Australia, at age 80 Robinson died on 20th April,1909 and was buried at Buckland two days later. His death notice appeared in The Mercury on Friday 23rd April and read: On Tuesday, 20th April at Buckland (suddenly) Robertson (sic) Briggs, beloved father of Mrs G.Franklin, Fingal; Mrs R. Worby, Kew, Victoria; Mrs A. Entwistle, Brisbane; late Mrs O. Neilson, Hobart. He was buried on 22 April 1909 at Buckland, Tasmania, Australia.

She was born in 1828. She was the daughter of Convict Isaac Briggs and Alice Dean. Sarah Elizabeth Briggs arrived 1839 on the ship 'Medway' in Van Diemen's Land, Australia. She married Convict John Cocker on 22 August 1845 at Green Ponds, Van Diemen's Land, Australia.
