It has now been established that Sarah Challis (Linton/Mace) was a convict.
She was not aboriginal or part aboriginal. However, as will appear, the discovery of that fact did not alter the long history of belief in aboriginal descent in many persons who could trace their ancestry to the person known as Emma Challis Linton. Nor did it alter the fact, which will also appear, that photographs of persons in the lines how the presence of dark skin colour and other aboriginal features.

The applicants now suggest that the person known as Emma Challis Linton was not the natural daughter of William and Sarah Challis but an aborigine adopted by them.
Emma's natural mother is believed to have been an aboriginal woman known as Mangalantia.

Emma Challis Linton married Richard Cowen. She was the mother of Emma Cowen who married William Berry. Emma Berry had three children. on 18 October 2002.

     Convict Sarah Linton was convicta convict but no details are known. Her married name was Challis. Convict Sarah Linton was also known as Sarah Mace. She was born in 1806 at England.¹ She married William Challis in 1885 at Tasmania, Australia.

     Her married name was Hodgetts. Edith Hope Lippsed was born on 21 July 1919 at Jindera, New South Wales, Australia. She married Thomas Nathaniel George Hodgetts, son of Nathaniel Arthur Hodgetts and Amelia Jane Pearson, on 3 April 1947 at Footscray, Victoria, Australia. Edith Hope Lippsed was buried in February 1996 at Buninyong, Victoria, Australia. She died on 18 February 1996 at Macrae, Victoria, Australia, at age 76.
