     Moses Austin Cartland According to Fred W. Cartland, Moses was married in Weare and lived
there most of his life. 1834 he opened Clinton Grove Academy which he
directed for 14 yrs. He also taught at Walnut Grove School. 1849,
travelled in Penn. campaning for anti-slavery. Over 6' tall. Died at
home of his brother Joseph. He and Mary Paige Gove According to Fred W. Cartland, Moses was married in Weare and lived

He married Mary Paige Gove, daughter of Joseph Gove and Abial Chase, on 26 April 1846 at Lee, New Hampshire, USA. Moses Austin Cartland died on 5 July 1863 at Providence, Rhode Island, USA, at age 57.

     Moses Howard Cartland was born on 27 February 1876 at Limerick, Maine, USA. He died on 14 December 1923 at Dover, New Hampshire, USA, at age 47.

     Her married name was Bidewell. Myra Ella Cartland was born on 20 February 1909 at White Brush, Alberta, Canada. She married William George Bidewell, son of John William Bidewell and Jessie Georgina Butler, on 13 September 1930 at Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Myra Ella Cartland died on 3 December 1993 at Calgary, Alberta, Canada, at age 84. She was buried on 7 December 1993 at Queen's Park Cemetery, Section K Lot 31, Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

     Nathan P. Cartland Date given for death is 1843 but it would make four children born after his decease so believe 1848 date perhaps correct. He was born on 3 January 1810 at Vassalboro, Maine, USA. He married Susan Coffin on 26 May 1836 at Greensboro, North Carolina, USA. Nathan P. Cartland died on 21 February 1848 at age 38.

     Olive Elaine Cartland Child would have been born after her death, so there is some error. Perhaps child is result of a second marriage. She was born on 25 May 1904. She died on 5 June 1929 at age 25.

     Pelatiah Cartland According to Fred W. Cartland this the eldest son of Joseph was once
disowned by the Quakers for some trivial misdemeanor but later restored
becoming both an Elder and a Minister in 1805-06. He was born on 14 December 1746 at Lee, New Hampshire, USA. He married Anna Hanson on 30 October 1776 at Dover, New Hampshire, USA. Pelatiah Cartland died on 1 May 1830 at Parsonsfield, York, Maine, USA, at age 83.

     Philip Cartland was born on 17 October 1888. He died on 11 June 1913 at age 24.

     Phoebe Cartland was born on 15 July 1816 at Vassalboro, Maine, USA. She died on 11 October 1833 at age 17.

     Samuel Cartland Graduated from Dartmouth and practiced Law later becoming a Probate Judge
for Grafton County. Elected to the N.H. legislature, became Pres.ofthe
Senate in 1831. During a change of governors he became Governo rfor one
day. He was born on 15 March 1791 at Lee, New Hampshire, USA. He died on 24 February 1852 at Exeter, Maine, USA, at age 60.

     Samuel Cartland was born in 1822. He died on 10 April 1888.

     Samuel Asa Cartland it is recorded that he was born at Bangor, Maine on September 2 1846. His parents were Asa Samuel and Priscilla Godwin (or Goodwin)

Sometime after the birth of his sister Grace the family left Maine
and moved to Michigan. This could have been around 1850 when they
settled at Pentwater in the western part of the State and on the shores
of Lake Michigan. There the family continued to grow with possibly three
more sisters, Lena, Agnes , and Alberta (Bertie plus a younger brother Asa, more commonly known as Tracy Douglas.
As a young man in his 20's Samuel found work farther south along the lake
at a place called South Haven. They he began working as a bookkeeper for
a lumber firm owned and operated by George Hannahs. Here he met and fell
in love with his employer's daughter Ella Louise . They were married September 20 1871 probably in South Haven.

Their first child was William Waldby who was born July 27, 1872. The following Spring Samuel and Ella moved to Mississippi to manage the company outlet on the Gulf of Mexico. The place where they lived was called Pascagoula and is situated at the mouth of the river.
Soon their second child Samuel Albert was born, April 5 1874.

Things were going very well for the young couple when six months later
tragedy struck. Samuel Asa contracted yellow fever and within days died,
October 2, 1874 leaving Ella Louise with infant sons. He was buried at
Scranton, Mississippi near Pascaguola. He was born on 2 September 1846 at Augusta or Bangor, Maine, USA. He married Ella Louise Hannahs, daughter of George Hannahs and Amanda Minnie, on 21 September 1871 at South Haven, Michegan, USA; Pg. 62 of Van Buren marriages the record is found of Samuel A. Cartland to Ella L. Hannahs. She is listed as 22 yrs. which would make her birth as 1849. There is some uncertainty re. this. Witnesses listed are
George Hannahs & Annetta G. Boggs. Samuel Asa Cartland died on 2 October 1874 at Pascagoula, Jackson, Mississippi, USA, at age 28 His obituary passed along by a
grandson reads as follows:
The death of this gentleman, occurred(sic) on the morning of the
2nd, instant was unexpected, and shocking for the community. By his
prompt business habits, his integrity, and amenity of manners, hehadwon
the respect of all whom he had come in contact during his short
sojurn(sic) among us, while he gave bright promises of being a most
useful and influential citizen.
Devoted to his business and concientious in discharging the duties
and in meeting the responsibilities devolving upon him in the absence of
the older members of the firm to which he belonged, it was probaby this
devotion which cost him his life.

Following the funeral Ella Louise returned home to South Haven.Sheleft
behind all her household property as well as, writes the youngest son
Albert in 1931, 'a lake schooner which my father owned and which he used
in his lumber business as a lighter to carry lumber from the millon the
river out to the sea-going ships in the Gulf.' Mother never hear again,
he wrote, either of her household goods, nor of the schooner, or from the
person left in charge of selling them.

     Her married name was Green. Sarah Cartland was born on 24 November 1764 at Dover, Stafford, New Hampshire, USA. She married Levi Green between 1778 and 1811. Sarah Cartland died in 1848.

     Sarah Cartland was born on 7 April 1803. She died on 4 November 1822 at age 19.
